Purpose: Admission to IIT undergraduate programmes, through JoSAA
Conducted by: One IIT each year, on rotation — announced with the brochure

JEE Advanced 2027 schedule

The JEE Advanced 2027 calendar has not been published, and the organising IIT for 2027 has not been announced. The table below is the pattern of recent years — use it to plan, and confirm everything against the official brochure when it is released.

Who can apply

JEE Main shortlisting: You must qualify JEE Main and rank within the shortlist for your category. This is the hard gate — no shortlist, no attempt.
Attempts: A maximum of two attempts, and they must be in two consecutive years.
Age: Candidates are generally required to have been born on or after 1 October of the year 25 years before the exam — for 2027, on or after 1 October 2002. A five-year relaxation applies to SC, ST and PwD candidates. Confirm in the brochure.
Class 12: You must have appeared for Class 12 for the first time in 2026 or 2027, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
Prior IIT admission: Candidates who have already accepted and retained an IIT seat are generally not eligible to reappear, regardless of attempts remaining.

JEE Advanced 2027 — frequently asked questions

Who can appear for JEE Advanced?

Only candidates who qualify JEE Main and are shortlisted — roughly the top 2.5 lakh rank-holders, distributed across categories. Qualifying JEE Main alone is not enough; you have to be inside the shortlist.

How many attempts do I get?

Two, and they must be in two consecutive years. This is much stricter than JEE Main, and it is the reason a dropper year needs to be planned rather than drifted into.

How different is it from JEE Main?

Substantially. JEE Main rewards speed and accuracy across a wide syllabus; JEE Advanced rewards depth on multi-step problems. The question formats also change year to year, which is deliberate — you cannot prepare by memorising a format.

Why does the marking scheme change every year?

Because a different IIT sets the paper each year and each is free to design the sections. Treat the previous year's scheme as a guide, never as a certainty, and read the current brochure before deciding how aggressively to attempt.

Which IIT is conducting it in 2027?

It has not been announced. The organising institute rotates among the IITs and is confirmed when the information brochure is published at jeeadv.ac.in.
